CNIPA: Invention Patent Grants Exceed 1 Million in 2024, Utility Model Patent Grants Continue Downward Trend

On January 17, 2025, China’s National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) released statistics for the 2024 calendar year.  Year-on-year, invention patent grants were up about 13.5% to 1,044,777 grants. Utility model patent grants were down about 4% to 2,009,657 grants. Note that utility model patent grants were already down over 25% in 2023. Design patent grants were up about 1% to 643,318 grants, reversing the downward trend from 2023.
