Per a release (国版发函〔2025〕4号) from the National Copyright Administration of China dated February 28, 2025, the total number of copyright registrations in China for 2024 reached 10,630,610, a year-on-year increase of 19.13%. Of these, 2,827,213 registrations were for computer software copyright registrations in 2024, an increase of 13.31% year-on-year. Other copyright registrations totaled 7,802,965 in 2024, an increase of 21.39% year-on-year.

China’s Huawei is #5 in U.S. Patent Grants in 2024, Up 44%
According to a recently released list of the top patentees in 2024 from Harrity LLP, Samsung and LG were the top two patentees in 2024 in the U.S with 9,304 and 5,156 U.S. patents respectively. The top mainland China patentee was Huawei at #5 with 3,285 U.S. patent, up 44% from 2023. CNIPA: Invention Patent Grants Exceed 1 Million in 2024, Utility Model Patent Grants Continue Downward Trend
On January 17, 2025, China’s National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) released statistics for the 2024 calendar year. Year-on-year, invention patent grants were up about 13.5% to 1,044,777 grants. Utility model patent grants were down about 4% to 2,009,657 grants. CNIPA Press Conference: Over 1 Million Invention Patents Granted in 2024
On January 15, 2025, the China State Council Information Office held a press conference with China’s National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) detailing statistics of 2024. Per Hu Wenhui, deputy director of the CNIPA, in 2024, a total of 1.045 million invention patents were authorized, a year-on-year increase of 13.5%. 67,000 patent reexaminations and invalidation cases were closed.
