HTC Wins 6.5 Million RMB and Injunction against Chinese Patent Infringers

Hongda International Electronics Co., Ltd. (aka HTC) recently received a favorable court verdict against Zhuhai Meizu Technology Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Jinli (Gionee) Communication Equipment Co., Ltd. for patent infringement of CN103811863B.  The Beijing Court of Intellectual Property awarded HTC 6.5 million RMB (about $940,000) and an injunction based on sales of the Meilan Note5 mobile phone and the M6 mobile phone.  The patent claims a mobile phone with metal casing and antenna design that overcomes attenuation caused by the …

CNIPA Announces Registration of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Mascots and Logos

The China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) announced seven Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics symbols including mascots and names on January 15, 2020.  Per the Regulations on the Protection of the Olympic Symbols, the term of protection is 10 years subject to renewal terms of 10 years each.  Fines for unlicensed commercial of the symbols are up to 250,000 RMB (about $36,000 USD) or up to 5 times illegal revenue.

Chinese Patent Filings Drop 9% in 2019

In a press conference on January 14, 2020, the Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA)released 2019 annual statistics indicating a drop of 9.1% in invention patent application filings from 2018.  Nonetheless, Chinese invention applications filed in 2019 totaled a staggering 1.401 million. This compares to 616,852 U.S. utility patent application filings  in fiscal year 2019, a 3% increase over fiscal year 2018. Press conference photo from CNIPA.
